Franklin Children’s Centre has cared for Calgary families since 2000. We are a licensed, not-for-profit centre for children aged 12 months to 6 years, led by certified early childhood educators. Everything we do is built around child-centred care: supporting each child’s social, emotional, physical and intellectual development at their own pace.
Our Approach
We follow a family-style philosophy. Children of different ages learn and play together in a stable, nurturing setting, which gives younger children role models to copy and older children the chance to lead. The aim is simple: your child should feel secure enough to explore, ask questions and try new things.
- An open door, always. You are welcome to spend time at the Centre with your child whenever you like. No appointment needed to see how their day is going.
- Confidence through language. Educators talk with children constantly — naming, explaining and asking — so they build vocabulary, reasoning and the confidence to use both.
- Learning to be part of a group. Sharing, cooperating and talking through small disagreements are things we practise every day, not lessons delivered once.
Our Programs
Infants & Toddlers
Ages 12 months to 3 years
Our youngest children need routine, comfort and a familiar face. Educators gently redirect and guide, helping toddlers begin to manage big feelings and impulses. Days are built around rest, meals, play and plenty of one-to-one attention.
Pre-Schoolers
Ages 3 to 6 years
Preschoolers are ready for more independence. Educators use positive guidance rather than punishment, and children get daily chances to cooperate, help one another and solve problems with words — the groundwork for a confident start at school.
Working With Families
We treat parents as partners, not spectators. You know your child best, so we ask for your input on decisions that affect them and keep you updated on how they are getting on.
- You are part of the decision making about your child’s care and learning.
- We consult early intervention professionals when a family wants extra support.
- Our educators take part in ongoing professional development in child development, research and practice.
A Centre That Reflects Every Family
Children should see themselves, and their neighbours, in the room around them. Our books, music, pictures, dress-up clothes and play materials reflect a range of cultures and backgrounds, and they sit on open shelves where children can reach them. Diversity is part of the everyday routine here rather than a once-a-year theme.
