Programs

Franklin Children’s Centre has cared for Calgary families since 2000. We are a licensed, not-for-profit centre for children aged 12 months to 6 years, led by certified early childhood educators. Everything we do is built around child-centred care: supporting each child’s social, emotional, physical and intellectual development at their own pace.

Our Approach

We follow a family-style philosophy. Children of different ages learn and play together in a stable, nurturing setting, which gives younger children role models to copy and older children the chance to lead. The aim is simple: your child should feel secure enough to explore, ask questions and try new things.

  • An open door, always. You are welcome to spend time at the Centre with your child whenever you like. No appointment needed to see how their day is going.
  • Confidence through language. Educators talk with children constantly — naming, explaining and asking — so they build vocabulary, reasoning and the confidence to use both.
  • Learning to be part of a group. Sharing, cooperating and talking through small disagreements are things we practise every day, not lessons delivered once.

Pre-Schoolers

More independence and positive guidance, with daily practice cooperating, helping one another and solving problems with words.

Working With Families

We treat parents as partners, not spectators. You know your child best, so we ask for your input on decisions that affect them and keep you updated on how they are getting on.

  • You are part of the decision making about your child’s care and learning.
  • We consult early intervention professionals when a family wants extra support.
  • Our educators take part in ongoing professional development in child development, research and practice.

A Centre That Reflects Every Family

Children should see themselves, and their neighbours, in the room around them. Our books, music, pictures, dress-up clothes and play materials reflect a range of cultures and backgrounds, and they sit on open shelves where children can reach them. Diversity is part of the everyday routine here rather than a once-a-year theme.

FAQs

Have Any Questions?

Here are some questions parents ask us most often.

What ages does Franklin Children’s Centre accept?

We welcome children from 12 months to 6 years of age, with programming for infants and toddlers (12 months to 3 years) and pre-schoolers (3 to 6 years) in family-style, mixed-age groups.

Is Franklin Children’s Centre a daycare or a preschool?

We’re a licensed, not-for-profit full-day child care centre rather than a drop-in preschool. Children join us for full-time care, Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 6:00 pm, with the same educators and a consistent daily routine.

What is the cost of child care at Franklin?

Because we’re fully licensed and receive all eligible government grants directly, full-time families pay $326.25 per month, whatever their child’s age, with all meals and snacks included and no hidden fees.

Are meals and snacks included?

Yes. Every meal and snack is included in the flat monthly fee, and we accommodate a wide range of dietary needs, including halal, no pork or beef, dairy-free, egg-free and vegetarian options.

What makes Franklin Children’s Centre different?

We’re parent-led and not-for-profit, with family-style mixed-age groups, an open-door policy so parents can visit any time, and educators who often stay with us for a decade or more.

Where is Franklin Children’s Centre located?

We’re at 1925 18 Ave NE, Calgary, just off Deerfoot Trail, and have been caring for Calgary families since 2000.
